Notes - Born in Hillstraat, Kroonstad where his father was employed in the Post Office until 1925. Following his medical board in 1925 Samuel's father started to farm first on his brother's farm Withuis, Virginia and later on Uithoek, Wesselsbron. In 1933 the family moved to the farm Liversage, Winburg. Samuel then went to a farm school on the farm Vaalkop more than 6 miles away until std 6. After that he attended the Winburg High School where he matriculated in 1943.
In 1944 he assumed service with the Civil Service, Dept of Agriculture, Pretoria. In 1946 he was transferred to the Rietrivier village in the, district Jacobsdal where he met a young teacher Aletta Sophia Visagie. They were married in 1952. After the wedding Samuel was transferred to Levubu near Louis Trichardt in the the Northern Transvaal.
Both his children were born at Elim Hospital, Louis Trichardt. In 1957 Samuel was transferred back to Pretoria where the family stayed at 34th Avenue 783. In 1967 Samuel obtained the Diploma in Civil Administration and was transferred with effect 1 February 1968 to the then SWA Administration, Nature Conservation and Tourism, Windhoek where he worked until June 1971.
After short periods of approximatedly 18 months each in the Stores, Secretariat en Health he retired after 13 years in the Department of Education as Assistant Director on 30 April 1985. Samuel and his wife Aletta then moved to Kleinmond where they stayed until 2003. They then moved to Legato Retirement Village in Durbanville. On 14 June 2006 he passed away. He was cremated with his ashes placed in the rembrance wall at the DR Church in Kleinmond.
